Hackintosh
10.5.2
10.4.8
This is essentially the same machine as MX8711, one comes with Vista Home, the other with Vista Premium and has a bigger HD. If you are looking for a new OS X compatible notebook you can't go wrong with this, its is probably one of the most compatible systems
Before beginning go in the BIOS and change the "Plug & Play OS" to "Other" from "Advanced Options" if you don't the keyboard and the touchpad will not work. You need a USB keyboard and mouse during installation, built-in keyboard and touchpad dont respond in the intstaller. After installation they work flawlessly with any additional effort.
Installed Jas 10.4.8 AMD/Intel SSE2/SSE3 DVD Using Custom Install Option and selecting the following Packages:
10.4.8 Intel Package Intel GMA950 Drivers Package PowerManagement Bundle Also used the Sigma package but it didn't seem to have an effect.
Post Install Setup
1. Sound: - Get the AppleHDAPatcher_v1.15.zip from http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?showtopic=32859&hl=applehda - Get the Sigmatel9250.txt from http://psykopat.free.fr/apple/AppleHDA/sigmatel/ 2. Wireless Card - the wireless card (RTL8187) appears as a USB card: - Download the latest OSX drivers from Realtek site this thread has details http://forum.insanelymac.com/lofiversion/index.php/t29797.html - After installation edit the /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/NetworkInterfaces.plist file, change <key>BSD Name</key> <string>en0</string> TO <key>BSD Name</key> <string>en1</string> - fix permissions in diskutils 3. Ethernet - This was the most challenging, this computer has Intel 100 Pro VE but the ktext included in this system has a bad driver, there are some threads on it. You need to get an older ktext for the internal Ethernet card to work - Get the older ktext file from this thread http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?s=&showtopic=14840&view=findpost&p=97291 - Delete the AppleIntel8255x.kext from /System/Library/Extensions/IONetworkingFamily.kext/ - Follow the instructions from the zip file, please note that the zip is a little funny although it expands to a .ktext, its not, the real .ktext is inside, there is readme there. - My device id 0x10928086 was already in the file so I didn't have to edit the file
Working:
- Native screen resolution 1440x900 - out of the box - KeyBoard - out of the box (depends on BIOS setting see above) - TouchPad - out of the box (depends on BIOS setting see above) - Wireless Card - Ethernet Card - Sound Output - USB - out of the box, I made no changes - DVD burner works, I have burnt successfully
Not Working:
- PC Card - Memory card slots - Microphone show up as 'unrecognized' haven't been able to use it.
Also working:
- QE/CI out of the box - Parallels work flawlessly and I have another XP system running under Parallels
Additional notes: Getting Vista and OS X to dual boot took a couple of times re-writing the MBR and when I let Vista repair itself and set the Active partition to OS X, my boot became sane.
Upgrade Notes:
10.4.9 is working great without any new issues.
